  • My Dad's 70th Birthday celebration.

Hi, EveryoneMy dad's 70th birthday and a few randoms 018

Yesterday we were blessed in the fact that we could celebrate my dad's 70th birthday. I still can't believe that he is 70. We had a pretty full weekend of activities. On Saturday we went to a Netherland's Bazaar in Thornhill, it is held every 2 years. We had a great time, we went with my parents, as well as my sister Cynthia was there. We were there early in the morning and left just aroound noon. We took a scenic route home instead of the highway, so we got to see alot. When we got home is around 2:30, then later my mom stopped by and then we went to my sisters where were going to have the dinner so that we could drop off some food for Sunday. I made gnocchi, which is an italian pasta, Ian's Nonna makes it and i love it, but i must say there was something missing in mine, so i will have to get the true recipe from Nonna. Then we came and relaxed. Sunday morning we went to our regular church and then went to my parents for a quick lunch and then headed out to my sister Lorettas' church in Burlington-Flambourough. After that we headed to my sisters for a get together for my dad's birthday. I had 3 of my siblings there, my sister Loretta who's house we were at, and of course her family, my brother Lee and his family, and my sister Cynthia from Alberta was able to come and join us. So needless to say we had a full house. Her are some pictures of the dinnerMy dad's 70th birthday and a few randoms 009 This is the wonderful table that we were all sitting at. We had alot of food, we had fruit jello, pinealpple salad, prime rib, chicken rolada, homemade applesauce, gnocchi, bean salad, small potatoes, yorkshire pudding and belgian endive. Great food with great company. Then after dinner, we had dessertMy dad's 70th birthday and a few randoms 011 Black Forest cake made by my mom. My dad also opened his presents, from my neice Emily he got a gag gift, a cane with a horn, plastic teeth, and over the hill pills. My dad had a pretty good laugh. My dad's 70th birthday and a few randoms 017 From my sister and her family he got a book on the war. ( Sorry it didn't go where i wanted it) Then from Ian and I he received a book on birds, as my dad likes to watch the birds in the backyeard. From my mom he received a box of English licorice, as he has a sweet tooth. From my sister Cynthia and her kids, he received a cd of Wilf Carter, and a wooden woodpecker doorknocker. He loved everything and had a great time.My dad's 70th birthday and a few randoms 015 My dad's 70th birthday and a few randoms 013 By the time we got home, it was almost 10:00, and we were tired. It is not very often that we get to get together, so it was a great time. Below is some random pictures of the cats and us.

Our new couch was free too, we got it off of freecycle. Gotta love those free sites.. Anyway till next time. Take Care.

  • Our long weekend

our long weekend 011 I thought i would blog a little about our long weekend. On Friday we ended being out all day, doing errands. As we rely on the bus to get around it took a little longer than it would have with a car. We first went to Walmart, then off to the pet store to get flea treatment for our cats. Then it was off to the grocery store to do our groceries. That was it for the day. On Saturday, we went with my parents to Costco, and after Costco after my parents dropped us off at home, we walked downtown to the dutch store to pick up a few things. After we  came we relaxed, and about 5:30pm, we decided to go to Riverside Park, which is a local park, where you can walk along the Speed River and enjoy some scenery. Here are some pictures of the gardens and of the big clock, i took these especially for my cousin Tamara, so enjoyour long weekend 012 our long weekend 009 our long weekend 008 our long weekend 007 our long weekend 006 our long weekend 013 Then Sunday we enjoyed two wonderful sermons from Rev. Feenstra, and enjoyed a wonderful relaxing Lord's Day. On Monday we decided to check out the John Galt Day activities, where we learned a bit of a history lesson and where Guelph got its' name. Here is a bit of history about who John Galt is He was born in 1779, and he was a Scottish novelist, In 1824, Galt was appointed secretary to the Canada Company, a charter company established to aid in the colonization of Upper Canada. While in Canada Galt lived in Ontario, where he founded the city of Guelph in 1827, thus in 2006 Guelph declared the first Monday in August John Galt Day. Now there is a whole history of wher ethe name Guelph came from but i won't go into that. Here is a picture of the first house Galt built in Guelphour long weekend 005 our long weekend 003 our long weekend 004 And late afternoon we decided to go out to dinner at Casey's as we had a gift card that we received as a gift at Christmas. So we enjoyed a great dinner and came home and spent a relaxing evening. Here are some pictures of Whiskers watching the Animal Planet, it is her habit now to watch whenever we have it on that channel.our long weekend 002 our long weekend 001 Take Care everyone, till next time.
